Farewell, Winter

Spring is here! But before we run out to pick posies, let's take a moment to appreciate the season we're leaving behind. It may not be as eagerly awaited as its warmer, more colorful sisters Spring, Summer and Autumn, but Winter has its own chilly charms. Here's a look back at some of my favorite scenes of the season.

It's a joy to be able to snowshoe right in our neighborhood

Why do I hear Mr. Ed's voice whenever I look at this picture?
Picture
One morning, Ray popped into my office and said, "Look out the window, there's someone outside who wants to see you." It was this guy! Good thing I looked, because he was gone by the next day. (The snowman, I mean, not Ray. He's still here.)

Even a tree stump is beautiful when snow-capped
Picture
Brrrrrr!

Wintry weeds
Picture
I do appreciate leafy greenery, but the stark patterns of bare trees have a different appeal.

The sculptural shapes are so much more apparent

Question: How come Ray gets the tractor . . .
Picture
. . . and I get the shovel?
Picture
Yes, more deer. I never tire of their visits, even when they snack on our trees and flowers.

Picture
Yes, another squirrel. What can I say -- they're just so darn cute when they sit that way.

Thank you for allowing me to experience the beauty of winter, without having to endure the long, cold days. I have been in Southcentral Texas too long to enjoy living in very cold climates! Neither would our deer and squirrels. Yours have much heavier fur coats. 😉

We all put on a little extra fluff for winter up here.

Beautiful shots, Nan. The trees in winter, my favorite. I love Winter but I’m so ready for some warmth.

That makes two of us, Susan. I had a teaser of warmth in Arizona, but then it was back to chilly Michigan. Fortunately, it's not very cold now, so it's starting to feel springy.

Your pictures make me wish I lived somewhere with four seasons. You capture such beautiful color and contrast in the scenery. Thank you for sharing.

Four seasons definitely have their charms. But your mild climate is pretty enviable, too.

I loved these Nan, they made me smile this morning looking out at Bahama blue.
Michigan is so beautiful too!

Your winter phographs touch the soul! Also, your memoir stayed with me for days after reading it. And, your mention of family members was appreciated!

I just got around to reading this one, great photos, you have many talents, one is to look so good in that furry hat. I think our winter is gone now. I am very ready to move into spring.

Ha! I think I look like a Muppet in that hat. But thank you! I'm ready for spring now, too.

Deer are vermin on my hill, but your gorgeous pictures gave me a moment's appreciation of their beauty. Now to go chase them out of the lily fields....

I can appreciate your perspective. If I were seriously trying to cultivate flowers (or vegetables, for that matter), I'd be annoyed with the deer, too.
